Magnussen from HASS and Stroll from Williams received a 3 grid penalty for blocking during qualifying practice. Magnussen was misinformed by his engineer on Perez coming on a hot lap behind him and blocked him through turns 12 and 13 compromising his session since he had to stop to get a new set of tires that he had reserved for Q3. On the other hand, the Canadian driver from Williams was not informed accurately while he was being instructed on a change of settings on his car and blocked Grosjean from HAAS between turns 19 and 20 to the point the French driver had to exit the track to avoid a collision.
Max Verstappen from Red Bull also received sanction for Technical breach along with Stoffel Vandoorne from McLaren, Nico Hulkenberg from Renault and Brendon Hartley from Toro Rosso.
